HGM Series Ultrafine Grinding Mill

The HGM Series Ultrafine Grinding Mill is LIMING's flagship fine powder production equipment, engineered to deliver particle sizes from 150 to 3000 mesh (5-74 microns). Drawing on decades of research and field testing across thousands of installations worldwide, this three-ring medium-speed micro powder mill achieves output capacities of 0.5 to 45 tons per hour while consuming up to 30% less energy than comparable jet mills and ball mills. Its closed-circuit design with integrated pulse-jet dust collection ensures a clean, quiet working environment, making it the preferred choice for processors of calcium carbonate, limestone, dolomite, talc, kaolin, barite, bentonite, and over one hundred other non-metallic minerals.

Working Principle

Raw material is first crushed by a hammer crusher to below 25mm, then lifted by a bucket elevator into a storage hopper. A vibrating feeder delivers the material evenly onto the upper distribution plate of the main unit's rotating turntable. The main motor drives the main shaft and turntable through a reducer, causing the grinding rollers—which are mounted on the turntable via plunge arms—to roll along the grinding ring under centrifugal force. Material fed onto the turntable is flung outward into the gap between rollers and ring, where it is crushed, pressed, and ground into fine powder. A high-pressure blower draws air through the grinding chamber, carrying the ground powder upward into the classifier. The classifier's high-speed impeller separates particles by size: oversized particles fall back for regrinding, while qualified fine powder passes through to the cyclone powder collector. Most finished powder discharges from the cyclone bottom via a rotary valve. Residual fine dust is captured by the pulse-jet bag filter, and clean air is exhausted through a muffler.

The grinding process is precisely controlled by the integrated classification system, which separates qualified fine powder from coarse particles. Coarse particles fall back to the grinding chamber for regrinding, while fine powder is conveyed by airflow to the cyclone collector and then to the finished product silo. This closed-circuit design ensures consistent product quality and high grinding efficiency.

Key Features & Advantages

High Grinding Efficiency

Under identical finished fineness and motor power conditions, the HGM mill produces 2x the output of jet mills, mixed grinding mills, and ball mills, while reducing energy consumption by approximately 30%.

Extended Spare Part Lifespan

The grinding ring and rollers are forged from specialized wear-resistant alloys. Under normal operating conditions processing calcium carbonate, these components last 2 to 5 years—roughly 2 to 3 times longer than those of impact mills or turbo mills.

🛡

High Safety and Reliability

The grinding chamber contains no rolling bearings or screws, eliminating the risk of bolt loosening or bearing seal failure that plagues conventional designs.

🏆

Flexible Fineness Adjustment

Finished product fineness can be continuously adjusted between 150 and 3000 mesh (74 to 5 microns) by varying classifier speed, providing exceptional versatility for diverse end-use applications.

🔥

Intelligent Speed Control

An advanced variable-frequency drive regulates both feeder and main motor speed, ensuring uniform material feed and stable fineness while maximizing throughput and minimizing energy waste.

👨

Eco-Friendly Operation

Integrated pulse-jet bag filter captures over 99% of airborne dust, while the muffler and sound-proof enclosure reduce noise to below 80 dB, meeting international environmental standards.

Applications & Industry Use

This equipment is widely used across multiple industries for various powder processing applications:

  • Paint and coating filler (titanium dioxide extension, matting agents)
  • Papermaking (fine filler and coating pigments)
  • Plastic and rubber reinforcement (PVC, PE, PP compounding)
  • Cosmetics and pharmaceutical powders
  • Construction materials (dry-mix mortar, putty, tile adhesive)
  • Agricultural fertilizers and animal feed supplements
  • Drilling fluid weighting agents (barite)
  • Refractory and ceramic raw material preparation

Performance & Efficiency

The HGM Series Ultrafine Grinding Mill is designed for maximum grinding efficiency and energy savings. The optimized grinding chamber geometry, combined with high-precision classification, ensures that energy is used effectively for particle size reduction rather than wasted on over-grinding or heat generation. Compared to conventional milling systems, our equipment typically achieves 20-30% lower power consumption per ton of finished powder.

Key performance metrics include stable fineness control with deviation less than 5%, low noise levels below 75 dB at 1 meter distance, and dust emissions below 20 mg/m3 when equipped with our pulse bag filter system. These performance characteristics make our equipment suitable for even the most demanding industrial environments and stringent environmental regulations.

Installation & Commissioning

Proper installation is critical for optimal equipment performance and longevity. Our experienced engineers provide on-site installation and commissioning services, including equipment positioning, alignment, electrical connection, piping installation, and system integration. The typical installation timeline ranges from 15 to 45 days depending on equipment model and production line complexity.

During commissioning, we conduct comprehensive performance tests including no-load test, load test, and production trial runs. We verify all performance parameters meet design specifications, calibrate control systems, train your operators on proper operation and maintenance procedures, and deliver a complete commissioning report with all test data.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials can the HGM ultrafine grinding mill process?

The HGM mill processes more than 100 non-metallic, non-flammable, non-explosive brittle materials with Mohs hardness below 6. Common materials include calcium carbonate, limestone, dolomite, talc, kaolin, barite, bentonite, gypsum, mica, graphite, chalk, magnesite, perlite, vermiculite, and many others.

How fine can the finished powder be?

The output fineness is continuously adjustable from 150 mesh (74 microns) to 3000 mesh (5 microns). This wide range covers requirements for paint fillers, paper coatings, plastic additives, and ultrafine specialty powders.

What is the expected lifespan of wearing parts?

When processing calcium carbonate, the grinding ring and rollers typically last 2 to 5 years. For harder materials, lifespan may be shorter. Wearing parts are forged from specialized alloys that offer 2 to 3 times the durability of conventional impact mill components.
