Multi-Head Classifier

The Multi-Head Classifier is the advanced classification system at the heart of the LUM ultrafine vertical roller mill. Featuring 2 to 4 independent rotating cage wheels arranged in parallel, this system simultaneously achieves high throughput and exceptionally narrow particle size distribution. Each head can be set to the same or slightly different cut points, allowing optimized particle distribution curves for specific applications. The multi-head configuration processes more air-powder mixture than a single-head design of the same diameter, making it essential for high-capacity ultrafine powder production where both throughput and product quality are critical.

Working Principle

Multiple cage rotor heads are arranged in parallel above the grinding table. Ground powder carried by air flow enters the classification zone and is divided among the heads. Each rotating cage wheel independently classifies its portion of the air-powder stream. Oversized particles are rejected and fall back to the grinding table, while qualified powder passes through all heads and exits to the collection system. The heads can operate at the same speed (single cut point) or different speeds (optimized distribution curve).

The grinding process is precisely controlled by the integrated classification system, which separates qualified fine powder from coarse particles. Coarse particles fall back to the grinding chamber for regrinding, while fine powder is conveyed by airflow to the cyclone collector and then to the finished product silo. This closed-circuit design ensures consistent product quality and high grinding efficiency.
