Barite Grinding Plant in Ecuador
Barite grinding plant case study in Ecuador. HGM ultrafine mill producing API-grade barite powder for oil drilling fluid. Equipment configuration, process flow, and production results.
This case study presents a detailed account of a real-world grinding mill installation project by LIMING, including project background, equipment selection rationale, installation process, commissioning results, and ongoing operational performance. The information is based on actual project data and customer feedback, providing valuable reference for similar projects.
Project Description
An oil services company in Guayaquil, Ecuador, needed a barite grinding facility to supply API-grade barite weighting agent to oil drilling operations in the Amazon basin. The specification required 200 mesh powder with minimum 4.2 specific gravity.
Equipment and Process
The plant utilized an HGM90L ultrafine grinding mill with a capacity of 3-6 t/h. Raw barite ore was crushed to below 20mm by a jaw crusher, dried in a rotary dryer to below 1% moisture, then fed to the HGM mill. A density-sorting jig was installed before the crusher to remove low-density waste rock, ensuring consistent feed grade.
Quality Control
The grinding circuit was optimized for API Specification 13A compliance. A sampling station after the cyclone collector tested specific gravity, particle size distribution, and alkalinity. The finished barite powder consistently met API 13A Section 9 requirements with 4.25 specific gravity and 97% passing 200 mesh.
