A magnesia producer in Queensland, Australia, required a grinding line for dead-burned magnesite (refractory grade) and light-burned magnesia (agricultural grade). Target products were 325 mesh refractory and 1250 mesh agricultural MgO powder.
Equipment Configuration
The HGM100L ultrafine mill was configured with a temperature-controlled grinding chamber. Dead-burned magnesite (processed at 1800 degrees Celsius) is hard and requires robust grinding. Light-burned magnesia (processed at 700 degrees Celsius) is softer but more reactive, requiring sealed handling.
Production Results
The plant produced 5 t/h of 325 mesh refractory-grade magnesia and 3 t/h of 1250 mesh agricultural-grade magnesia. The refractory powder was pressed into magnesite-chrome bricks for copper converter linings, achieving 250 heats per campaign. The agricultural grade was used as animal feed magnesium supplement and fertilizer.
