Project Description
A fluorite processor in Coahuila, Mexico, required a grinding line to produce 200 mesh metallurgical-grade and 1250 mesh ceramic-grade fluorspar powder from run-of-mine ore.
Two-Grade System
The line was configured with a primary HGM80 mill set at 200 mesh for metallurgical flux (3-5 t/h) and a secondary HGM100L set at 1250 mesh for ceramic body (2-3 t/h). A heavy media separation plant upstream removed quartz and calcite gangue to achieve 97% CaF2 grade before grinding.
Results
Metallurgical fluorspar at 200 mesh met steel industry specifications with 85% CaF2 minimum. Ceramic-grade fluorspar at 1250 mesh was used in opalescent glass and enamel production. The dual-grade approach maximized revenue by serving both high-volume metallurgical and high-value ceramic markets from a single facility.
